In the Family of God: I am God's Child

I recently heard this in a preaching by Apostle Joshua Selman (I don't remember his exact words but am phrasing it in my own words as I remember his message):

The Bible tells us God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son. The only begotten Son part was true, but only until Christ was crucified and was resurrected to glory and power. Ever since Jesus' resurrection, God now has many sons (and daughters), as many as has believed in Christ in their hearts and has confessed Him with their mouth.

To some, this may sound like blasphemy, putting ourselves in the same class or even daring to liken ourselves to Jesus. But IT REALLY IS SO, brothers and sisters.

For some, we have no issue seeing God as our Abba Father. Even as Jesus taught us how to pray in Matthew 6 and in Luke 11, He taught us to start our conversation with God thus: Our Father in heaven. How do we address God? As our Father! I previously wrote on God's identity as our Father in my earlier post. You may read it here

Now it is time to see this from our viewpoint. If God is our Father, then that naturally means that we are His children, right?

OK, I'm stating the obvious. But I realised that there are some who struggle to see this identity - a beloved child who has the very same nature and life as his/ her Father.

Some scriptures on this identity and on how this 'divine adoption' takes place:

1. Rom 8:15 you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

2. Gal 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out,“Abba, Father!”

3. Eph 1:5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Two key words here: Spirit and Son (Jesus Christ).

Some additional scriptures to ponder:

4. John 3:3 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again (from above), he cannot see the kingdom of God.

5. John 3:5-6 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

We have to see this as truth and reality: we are (have been) born again, we are (have been) born of the Spirit. It cannot be any clearer.

I would like to quote the words of Essek William Kenyon because everyone needs to read this:

The greatest miracle happens when a man receives Eternal Life, when a child of the devil become a Child of God. Notice again: When a man who is spiritually dead passes out of the realm of Satan into the realm of Life ( into the Kingdom of the Son of God's Love), that is the miracle of miracles.

He will be an actual Child of God. The old spiritual nature that links him with Satan has ceased being, and a New Nature, God's own Nature, is imparted to him. Now he is as really the Father's Son as was Jesus in His earth walk, and he is as Righteous as the First Begotten, because that First Begotten is his Righteousness. You may talk about miraculous things, but I declare to you, this New Creation miracle outstrips everything in all Creation.

What a much needed revelation for the body of Christ!

Beloved in Christ, let us open our eyes and our hearts. And see this New Creation that we are in Christ - child of God!
